DIA DE LOS MUERTOS: A CULTURAL LEGACY

January 4, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

dia de los muertos

“Dia de los Muertos: A Cultural Legacy, Past, Present & Future”. Since 1973, Boyle Heights cultural arts center Self Help Graphics & Art has hosted the longest-running and free Dia de los Muertos celebration in the country. As part of the Getty’s city-wide program Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, this exhibit explores the evolution of the Mexican tradition of honoring the dead in Los Angeles ahead of SHG’s communal Day of the Dead event in November. Among the artworks displayed are altars by Ofelia Esparza, Gerardo “Acamonchi” Yepiz and Marcus Kuiland-Nazario, photographs, prints and ephemera from the gallery’s 40-plus years.
