One person was killed, another injured Monday when a car rolled over into a ditch on the side of the San Diego (405) Freeway in Sherman Oaks, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 4:35 a.m. on the northbound San Diego Freeway just north of Burbank Boulevard near the Sepulveda Basin, the California Highway Patrol said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. A second person was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, she said.

The deceased victim was described as a man, about 25 years old, CHP Officer Peter Nicholson said. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Details about the crash were not available. The CHP was investigating.

A SigAlert was issued for the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes of the northbound San Diego Freeway north of Burbank Boulevard.
