The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gas in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the 38th consecutive day, decreasing 1.4 cents to $3.582, its lowest amount since April 12.

The average price is 6.9 cents less than one week ago and 25.9 cents lower than one month ago, but 36.9 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 43.2 cents since the start of the year.

The streak of decreases is the longest since a 42-day run from July 6- Aug. 16, 2016.

The Orange County average price dropped for the 36th time in 37 days Friday, decreasing 1.1 cents to $3.526, its lowest amount since March 30. It has dropped by 29.7 cents over the past 37 days, including 2.2 cents on Thursday.

“Oil prices have dropped by more than 20 percent in the last month, bringing the national average gas price of $2.51 a gallon very close to the same price level as this time last year,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

“Unfortunately, Southern California drivers are still paying nearly 40 cents more per gallon on average than at this time last year. But we could see a few local stations post prices under $3 a gallon for regular unleaded in the next week or two.”
