A tentative three-year contract that would raise salaries by up to 6 percent for roughly 2,500 principals and other administrators has been reached between the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles, according to officials.
The agreement, which was announced late Friday, is retroactive to July 1, 2017.
LAUSD’s Board of Education and the AALA membership must vote to ratify the agreement before it goes into effect. Both votes are set for August.
“This agreement demonstrates Los Angeles Unified’s commitment to its employees,” Superintendent Austin Beutner said. “It affirms the value we place on our administrators, who help lead our efforts to provide a great education for every student.”
AALA officials said they are also pleased with the outcome.
“While we always wish we had been able to win everything we set out for at the start,” the group’s president Juan Flecha said, “AALA is proud we were able to move the District on important issues facing front-line managers.”
The tentative agreement calls for a guaranteed raise during the first year, a wage supplement for the second year and the option to re-open salary negotiations during the third year, depending on the health of the District’s finances.
In addition to principals and assistant principals, the AALA also represents administrators in non-instructional positions and managers in food services, information technology and transportation.
LAUSD still is in negotiations with United Teachers Los Angeles, the union representing more than 35,000 teachers and related employees, district spokeswoman Barbara Jones said.
