Authorities Tuesday identified a man and woman who were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Pacoima.
The crash occurred about 8:45 p.m. Monday south of Van Nuys Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Joshua Allen, 23, of Lakewood, and Jocelyn Gomez, 24, of South Gate died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
According to the CHP, Gomez was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer, and Allen was one of her two passengers. Her second passenger, a 21-year-old South Gate woman, was treated at a hospital for minor injuries, the CHP reported. Her name was not released.
The Mitsubishi had become disabled in the No. 1 lane for unknown reasons, and a 2017 Subaru WRX that was southbound in the same lane crashed into it, the CHP reported.
The Subaru driver, a 21-year-old Saugus man, was treated for minor injuries, the CHP reported. His name was not released.
The force of the impact deflected the Subaru into the path of 2014 Nissan Rogue SUV in the No. 3 lane, and a chain-reaction crash involved the Nissan and two other vehicles. A passenger in the Nissan suffered major injuries. The occupants of one of the two other vehicles suffered minor injuries.
Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call the CHP Altadena Area office at (626) 296-8100.
