A small and shallow earthquake rattled an area at the foothills of the Tehachapi mountains Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The temblor struck at 8:24 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.7 at a depth of about 1.8 miles, its epicenter 11 miles north of Keen in Kern County, according to a computer-generated report from the USGS.

There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
