SETTING THE RECORD GAY, based on a concept called Bare Naked Angels created by Producer
Stacy Ann Raposa, was presented by Fringe Theatre Company. This production was taken from the
lives of four men and created by them during a writing workshop led by the director, Dodd. The
evening was an opportunity to learn of their lives, their childhood experience, coming out, the real
lives of gay men, not stereotypes but humans trying to find their way in an often too cruel world It is
raw and moving, tender and humorous, and the pain the storytellers share is sometimes too real for
comfort. The performers are Leon Acord, Misha Fisher, Wenzel Jones and Billy Walker and each
delivered their lives up to an audience with hopefulness that enlightenment might be joined with
entertainment. Billy’s story of growing up in northern England in a working class town and the torment
he endured was particularly sad.The evening ended with the thought that gay men might be not
separated by their sexuality but be simply a part of humanity. This is worth seeing, definitely thought
provoking and sometimes graphic, but perhaps a chance to see these men who began as strangers but
left us knowing them intimately and with a deep appreciation for their strength and courage.
